The Da Kanak plate is so filling and comes with everything! This for $17 is also such a good deal. You get Mac n cheese teriyaki beef spring rolls mochiko chicken spam and Portuguese musubi. They're not exactly musubi rice balls though. They just give you the rice and sausage. But still everything was tasty especially the mochiko chicken. The outside is so crispy and has a nice soy umami flavor to it. Service is nice. Ambiance is very cozy family diner vibe.
Solid 4/4.5 spot for Hawaiian food. There's a little parking lot which is perfect if you have a car. All the dishes were delicious. Da kanak attack is a perfect sampler of various items from teriyaki beef, crispy mochiko chicken, and Portuguese sausage. The chili was also very flavorful and had specks of tomato and cooked down onion. Will definitely go back for when I have that Hawaiian craving.
I've been going to Kona Kitchen for years. One of, if not, my favorite Hawaiian spots in Seattle. Great food and service. Staff is always friendly. My go-to is the build your own loco moco (I opt for fried rice). Don't miss out on the Chantilly cake!!
I recently visited Kona Kitchen near Northgate for breakfast and had a pleasant experience. I ordered a vegetarian omelette with hash browns, toast, and coffee, which came with free refills. The food was decent--nothing extraordinary, but it hit the spot for a simple morning meal. The omelette was well-prepared, and the presentation was appealing. One of the highlights of my visit was the service. I went on a Monday morning when it wasn't busy, so I received prompt and attentive service from Joe-Lison, who made sure my coffee was always topped up and checked in regularly to ensure everything was to my satisfaction. The staff overall were friendly and efficient, contributing to a positive dining experience. Parking was a breeze with plenty of spaces available in their parking lot, which is a big plus in Seattle. The total cost of my meal was under $20, making it a reasonably priced option for breakfast. Overall, while the food was just okay, the excellent service and convenient location with easy parking made my visit worthwhile. I look forward to returning to try some of their other menu items.
It's been a long time since we came to Kona Kitchen. If you are from Hawaii, it is one of the places where you can get good Hawaii local food. What is cool is Yuji Okumoto (actor in Karate Kid II) is the owner of this Hawaiian-style restaurant and there are signed photos by actors and musicians as well as some cool memorabilia on their walls. We ordered the Lau Lau Plate, Kanak Attack, and the Korean Chicken. Being from Hawaii, the Lau Lau with a side of lomi lomi salmon really hit the spot. It's like I remember it back home. The Kanak Attack is what it sounds like, (Kanak Attack is pidgin for food coma) it had Korean chicken, spam, Portuguese sausage, teri beef, mac salad, rice, and egg rolls. It was a huge plate and my son loved it. My husband had the Korean Chicken and it was really good. The flavor was on point and he really enjoyed it. And of course, I had to have my lau lau with my favorite Hawaiian Sun drink. Kona Kitchen is definitely the place to go when Hawaii transplants have a craving for Hawaii local food. I know it really hit the spot for me, and I am definitely going to be back.
I love this place but my last experience was a bit off. We arrived and waited a while to be seated. Once sat, it took them about 20min to come back to get our order. Food came out fast though so that was fine. We ordered: -small saimin: good -tutu's meatloaf: a bit mushy compared to my last order -Korean Chicken: only some of the chicken had Korean sauce as seen in the picture. The chicken was made perfectly though: crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside.
Come for the food (variety of hawaiian & Asian food), and be entertained by finding out about the owner of the restaurant. Go look at their website or YouTube for their funny commercial. The food was pretty good, we got the kalua pork and got to try the kimchi fried rice (delicious). More importantly you can gather a crowd here, it's family friendly, and there is something on the menu for everyone (breakfast served all day!).
